So Generations Will Know
How many of us can tell a story about our great-grandparents? Do we know how our grandparents met or even our parents? We rarely question our own family histories until it’s too late. Unfortunately, the all too common refrain at family gatherings is, "I wish I had asked about that."
Solution
“So Generations Will Know” is my passion project: to provide a platform for people, especially seniors, to share their stories. Using high quality video and audio, I will sit down with you or your family member to capture all that needs to be shared, so generations will know.
How It Works
My approach is simple yet effective. I bring a professional but minimal setup: a small video camera on a tripod, a microphone, and a light or two if necessary. I guide the conversation, asking questions when necessary but allowing the storyteller to speak freely. Minimal editing is done to preserve authenticity, and families receive a copy that can be shared privately or uploaded to a YouTube channel.
The Power of Video
Unlike written records, video allows us to see and hear our loved ones—their voices, their expressions, their emotions. It makes their stories come alive in a way that is irreplaceable.
A Call to Action
I know how easy it is to put this off. We assume there’s always time, but tomorrow is not promised. Whether you have me record your loved one’s stories or do it yourself, the important thing is to take action, so generations will know!
